Recommended Reading for Research and Pleasure!

A Guide Through Vintage Costume Jewerly Resources

I have not read all of these books (yet!). This is a list from the eBay Jewelry and Gemstones Discussion Board.

For your convenience, I'm linking these books for sale where they are available from Half.com (an eBay company). I would have listed Amazon links also but was afraid that would keep us from linking it on the Discussion Boards. However, I can recommend, whenever possible, to buy directly from the author for two reasons. One, you can probably get the book autographed and two, it usually benefits them financially and supports them for their work. Additionally, if not the author, I would recommend shopping around on the publisher's site. They often have clearance sales of perfectly wonderful books. Often discounted because there are too few left to advertise or a new edition is coming out in the next 6 months.

I'm also giving you two very special links. One is to the Open Library Wiki-like project funded by the California State Library The Open Library. On this wonderful site, you can "pick up" an e-Book to read on-line for free. The books are scanned, actual copies and can be as old as from the 1800's. They may help you research the older pieces for which you cannot have every antique book on hand.

The other is WorldCat. WorldCat is the world's largest network of library content and services. It will tell you what library systems near you have the book you are searching for. Most libraries are willing to borrow from within systems and could get it in locally for you.
